Fresh Thoughts for Today...
Prov 8:20-21 – I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment: That I may cause those that love me to inherit
substance; and I will fill their treasures.
First and foremost, let's establish the fact that He LEADS...we FOLLOW. What did He say to the disciples when He called them out? It
was "Follow me." But too often when we decide to lead our own lives--our own decisions--we end up hearing a voice BEHIND us saying,
"THIS is the WAY. Walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand and when ye turn to the left." When we allow God to LEAD the
WAY, we won't have to hear His voice behind us bidding us to make the right decisions. He will LEAD. We will FOLLOW.
First we must establish the understanding that the "way" is the "course of life" we are on...our "journey with God" ...the "road that
we trod".
"So what exactly is the way of righteousness?" I asked myself. What exactly does it mean to be "righteous" anyhow?
The way of righteousness is simply living our course of life by our justification through Christ. A life that is vindicated by His
sacrifice on the cross. A life that is blameless before God. A life that is truthful in deed.
The paths of judgment are the decisions we make--some on a daily basis. Like what we should do or what we should not do. What
we should say or what we should not say. What we should listen to or what we should not listen to. What we should watch or what we
should not watch. Where we should go or where we should not go. You get the picture, I'm sure. And the list of decisions goes on
without ending until we meet our Maker.
But then there are those monumental moments when we are in the midst of the paths of judgment. These are what I would
call the Crossroads of Decision. These are the choices we are faced with that can be life changing. Who we should marry...or who we
should not marry. What career we should pursue...or what career we should not pursue. Where we should live...or where we should not
live. What job we should take...or what job we should not take. What church we should join...or what church we should not join. It is at
these crossroads that we must not walk IN God's way, but we must walk in God's WAY.
His Word comes with a promise because He loves us. When we follow His leading, we will inherit substance... we will acquire
possessions. (Or simply put, we get stuff!)
But better yet, He will fill our treasures. When we are full, we are complete. When we are full, we are satisfied. But when we are full
of treasures, we are a blessed people. Our treasures of need--like food and drink...our treasures of desire--like gold and silver...and our
spiritual treasures--like the Armor of God, are all filled.
My prayer is simply this..."Lord, cause me to follow you, as you lead me in the way that is right...in the middle of my crossroads of
decision. Because you love me, I know I will inherit substance and you will fill my life with treasures." Wow...
The next time you read Proverbs 8:20,21 again, I pray that it will take on a whole new meaning.
In His Way,
Rhonda
